Srikar Satish began his musical journey in Carnatic music under the guidance of his father, immersing himself in the art form from an early age. His foundational training was in vocal music, beginning at the age of four with Smt. Deepa Suresh and later continuing under Smt. Sumithra Srinivasan. At the age of ten, Srikar was introduced to the bamboo flute by Sri Bharathwaj Gopalakrishnan, marking the start of his journey as a flutist. For the past decade, he has pursued advanced training under the tutelage of Kalaimamani Vidwan Sri Shashank Subramanyam, one of India’s foremost flute virtuosos.
Over the years, Srikar has established himself as both a performer and a promoter of Indian classical music. He has appeared at prestigious venues and programs including Doordarshan television broadcasts, Bharat Nivas in Auroville, as well as Season Concerts.
Srikar’s artistry has earned him several accolades, including his selection as an Indian Raga Fellow and the UNESCO-endowed “Young Indian Cultural Arts Ambassador” title for his contributions to promoting Carnatic music across the diaspora. He regularly judges local music competitions and has been recognized for his leadership as President and former Treasurer of SPICMACAY at Texas A&M University, where he organized concerts and cultural initiatives that promoted local artists, as well as brought leading artists to the university.
Beyond performance, Srikar is deeply invested in education and musicology. He has given multiple lecture-demonstrations on Raga and Emotion at Texas A&M University, as well as other presentations on topics such as the original Walajapettai notations of Tyagaraja kritis, the evolution of ragas over centuries, and the development of flute techniques across generations. His work bridges performance and scholarship, often integrating historical research with live demonstration. He also teaches and collaborates with ethnomusicology programs at Texas universities, nurturing the next generation of listeners and practitioners of Indian classical music.
